She won't mention that he's only a few years older than her, as that's not the point. But the movie had been a waste of time, and whoever had recommended that to him, hopefully, didn't recommend anything else if this was their first option.
"Mhm, that sounds fine." The movie journey can be picked up later, maybe with a far better selection than what they had been graced with today. "Am I to guess you want to watch the show the traditional way and not through a streaming service?"
Since that was how most people watched shows nowadays, she's guilty of doing that most of the time, and most channels had their own streaming platforms anyway.
"Oh, no," he says. "If you've got more streaming services, maybe we should try those. There's so many commercials now," he says. "And they're all so fast. I don't know how you're even supposed to know what they're selling."
Or how to tell if it's good. But he comes from a time when things are much slower-paced.
Either works for him though, so it's whatever Jessica prefers, really.
"I do. I'm not ashamed to admit it's the only way I watch series." It was more convenient that way, as she avoided annoying commercials and the fact that she could easily binge-watch anything she wanted, which is what she had been doing with a show called ER. "I suppose they have to make the best out of the 30 seconds they get; I think only medications commercials get a bit more than that, but don't quote me on that."
And even then, those could pass by so fast, especially on the side effects part. One would think they would take their time with that, but apparently not. Though she will admit that she found some of the long infomercials amusing because those were long thirty-minute ones.
"So, which series are you interested in watching? I noticed that you had some suggestions in that list of yours." She moved to get her food and looked up at him. "And how much of it do you want to see? Because I admit, if it's something I like, I tend to end up doing a binge-watch, but I know not everyone likes to do that."
"I think maybe we could just re-evaluate after an episode or two," he responds, as he pulls out his list. "Do they have uh, House MD?" He assumes that's a television show about doctors.
He's not sure why it was recommended to him - he doesn't know why most of the things on the list are recommended to him and he doesn't ask, but he just assumes that people like these things and want to share them.
He never forgets who it is who recommended it to him, after all.
"Hmm, yes, I think they do." She just needs to remember which one, because she is sure it's not on Netflix but it wouldn't take long to find out where. "I remember seeing the first episode of that, and it was good, I remember leaving me on my watchlist."
And as far as medical dramas went House was a good recommendation, though now she's curious to see if anyone had recommended Grey's Anatomy because that show had been so hyped to her and she had been so disappointed, it was then she kind of stopped accepting recs and just decided to watch whatever she wanted.
"So, out of curiosity, in that list of yours, do you have multiple recommendations from the same person or not?" Because if that were the case, she will second-guess whatever recommendations the person that put the 10 things movie.
"Sure," he says, taking out his list. "A bunch of people recommend lots of things, usually I jot down one or two and tell them to get back to me later, because I don't have time to watch all of it."
Or read all of it, or listen to all of it... It's a lot.
"I did miss out on a lot of pop culture, but it's fine. I finally understood something Tony referenced the other day. Rode that high for a good few hours until he said the next thing I didn't understand."
So, well, he's working his way slowly through the western canon of... everything.
"Does it ever feel overwhelming to you? All the stuff you need to catch up with." Because it was a lot of media to catch up on, and with people recommending more and more stuff to check, and with some maybe expecting him to watch it to have his opinion. Just thinking about it tired her, maybe that's why she rarely accepts recommendations and opts for stuff she finds interesting.
There is a slight hum, before finally finding the steaming platform that had House MD. "And what was the reference used?" Though it's not rare that even 'normal' people miss some references, as she had met someone that wasn't familiar with the 'I am your father' one, even though people mostly misquoted that one sometimes.
