Yep, this should be fine. "Go!" he yells, as he rounds the corner with the creature, trying to bait it into engaging with him as Diana does the same on the other side.
It's better for them to control it this way, try to keep it away from the streets and from all the people on it just trying to scurry past.
At some point once it's decided Diana's the bigger threat, Steve leaps on top of it to bash it a few times with his shield, and it seems to just grow angrier and angrier, making this horrible squelch as it whips out its limbs to try and subdue the both of them.
At his signal, she leaps up and brings the Lasso of Hestia to subdue the
beast. It glows as she deftly moves around it to trap it as the man in blue
distracts it. He leaps up, she slides under, entangling a few more of it's
limbs. She picks up her sword where it's discarded and hacks at one limb,
before turning and hacking another.
"What manner of creature is this?" she asks.
It has to be alien considering how it had arrived in this area.
Steve shakes his head. "Don't know. The portal-ripping, dimension-hopping kind!" in fact, he's quite surprised none of the wizards have shown up to do anything about it.
He continues trying to bait it over somewhere empty, since it seems to be advancing towards big buildings, but then a couple of people run by him a little too close.
"Sorry, but I'm about as clueless on it as you are! We'll have to bring it in for an autopsy later!" he exclaims, now aiming for one of its many eyes that it's distracted from having its limbs cut off.
When she sees the people run a little too close to the action, her lasso
whips through the air, grabbing them and releasing them at a safer
distance. Diana moves swiftly, commanding the lasso to wrap around the
remaining legs to immobilize it. Her brows draw together as she leaps over
it to wrap more between its eyes. She'll need to ask Victor and Barry about
this. Perhaps they would know something about portals and dimensions being
ripped. As much as she's known of the world and the Amazons' history of the
universe, this one is a new one to her.
That's when she spots the opening. She lands atop the beast, holding fast
to the lasso as it struggles in its hold.
"Blue man! There is a spot between the eyes that look at you! Use your
shield to hit it hard! It may subdue it long enough to take it somewhere!"
The lasso's pretty neat. He gets a few glimpses of it in action, but he's more focused on his own tasks, though he gets a good idea of Diana's fight style. It's clear that she's an incredibly seasoned warrior, and not only that, but it's also very abundantly clear that she's stronger than he is, physically.
He doesn't realize exactly how strong this lasso is though, until she's calling him blue man, and once she does, he winds up his shield as much as he can to deliver a hard blow, wedging the shield deep into the creature, and he leaps up onto it to retrieve the shield again, unless Diana wants to help him with that.
She holds on as he winds up and delivers the blow. The creature lets out a
horrific screech and Diana leaps off as it collapses on the ground. She
knows better than to grab someone else's weapon. Diana keeps a hold on the
lasso until the blue man makes his way down.
"You have fought valiantly. How will you get the creature to where such an
autopsy will commence?" Moreover, who is the agency that would be
conducting this? As soon as she gets the name, she could do the research
herself.
Well, that's a good question and he doesn't have an answer for that. "I don't know," he says. "But I guess I should get in touch with someone who can bring me to my world again." Yep, that sounds like a good first plan.
"You're a great fighter. This world's lucky to have you." But this also means he needs to get home to his world, to protect it.
He takes a breath, and looks down at the creature. "I've never even seen anything like it. I don't think it's from my world. It travels through dimensions."
"Then perhaps I could be of assistance again. I know of a few people who
might be able to analyze it and its abilities. Perhaps be able to pinpoint
which dimension it is from and return it there and you to your world,"
Diana offers, considering her new friend.
Already, a crowd begins to crowd around them and phones come out. She turns
to the blue man again. Bruce, Victor, and Barry may be able to figure
something out. Perhaps she would be able to send a missive to her mother
though she doubts such a beast is described in their histories.
Construction had finished of the old Wayne Mansion.
"They will be quick with clean up and repairs," she adds quietly.
He nods and the people taking photos seem not to phase him. Seems like he's used to this sort of treatment back home, too. "That'd be a great help."
Then, putting away his shield and extending a hand, he offers up his information. "I'm Steve, by the way. Steve Rogers. It's nice to meet you." He flashes her a smile and looks to be much more relaxed now, that the immediate danger has passed.
She watches as he puts away his shield and extends his hand. American, that
much was obvious. But then he introduces himself as Steve. Her breath
catches just a little bit. She's met many Steves over the years. Plenty
that were blue eyed and blond and noble like her Steve.
"How bold to give your identity so easily and publicly, Steve Rogers," she
replies with a smile of her own.
She takes his hand and shakes it, considering how to best introduce
herself. They were out of the shadows now. At least, she is. Bruce did like
to brood in his little cave. Diana lets go and places a quick message to
Bruce and Victor regarding the clean up and analysis. On cue, black Wayne
Enterprise trucks start to roll in and part the crowd with Victor at the
wheel of one of them. She nods to her friend, smiling and waving at his
stoic face. She turns to Steve again.
"My identity's not a secret at home," he explains. "Though if yours is, I don't need a name. Codename might be nice, just so I have something to call you." He seems rather nonchalant about this, but honestly, his identity is really heavily tied to his real name, and while he respects anyone who needs to keep it a secret, it's also not as big of a thing. He supposes the only one who he doesn't really know is Spider-Man, but he's not going to pry.
He nods and then greets Cyborg as well, introducing himself, even taking his cowl off. His hair is messy, but he shakes it back into place.
"So who else is on your team?" he asks, because it's very apparent that she doesn't work alone. That makes sense, for extra-dimensional threats, he'd also call in his teammates.
A fan shouts from the crowd and she chuckles as she hears the camera
flashes. She waves back at them. As soon as the creature is safely in the
truck, she pulls the lasso of Hestia back toward her.
"Batman, Superman, Aquaman," she chuckles softly, just thinking of their
ragtag group that came together. "Flash, and, of course, Cyborg."
Aliases were safer in public. Especially for Bruce and Clark who valued
their privacy.
"Tell me, Steve Rogers, have you ever swung through a cityscape?"
Wonder Woman. Well, the moniker does seem to be very fitting from where Steve's standing. "Guess you guys must be the Avengers of this world," he says, as if Avengers is a general term that people use to give their superhero teams.
"And uh- no, don't think I ever took Spider-Man up on that offer. Why?" Is that a thing Diana does? Is that an offer? Because he can't fly, so he does need a ride, but uh, this also seems like a good time for him to just take the bus.
That is, if they accept dollars here. And if the inflation is similar to how it is back home.
"Avengers?" she asks, eyes squinting a little. Diana smiles a little at how
he'd been offered before. Perhaps not the best way to transport him. "Come,
we'll take the more conventional way of travelling."
With the crowd mostly distracted by Cyborg and the team cleaning up the
mess, Diana guides him down the alley where her clothes were kept and tugs
him along to where her car is.
"This Spider Man, is he a spider that walks like a man?"
"What? No, he's a -- I guess he's a man that shoots webs like a spider. And he's very agile. And mouthy." He laughs a little. "He fights with a lot of heart." But he's young, Steve wants to say, too young for this life.
But he follows instead, to Diana's car. "Well, this is a lot more inconspicuous. But I uh, I didn't bring a change of clothes," he admits.
"Well to be honest, I don't normally travel across worlds, ma'am," he responds, easily. "But things sure have been weird the last few years." In this timeline, he doesn't go back to spend his days with Peggy. Instead, he just realizes more that the world needs him to be Captain America, and that Peggy lived a full life without him.
Which is, coincidentally, how he winds up in Metropolis, or Gotham, or wherever this is.
Ma'am. It's sweet and reminiscent of her Steve. They're two different men,
of course, this one seems less carefree than her Steve.
"Then we'll need to take you on a proper tour of Gotham before you return
home. I'm sure Barry and Victor will have plenty of questions. More than
likely Bruce as well but I can keep them at bay so you can have a moment of
rest."
The sleek vehicle tears down a quieter road away from the crowd. They're
lucky that they could go about their lives as privately as they wished for
the most part. It isn't long before they leave the city limits and the
foreboding building that had once been Wayne Manor appears.
They are very different men, but her Steve is almost as old as this one's father, and he was born the same year that hers died. Not that she knows that, but she might've thought it a funny coincidence. Both, fine pilots who crashed their planes to save the world once.
"It's all right. I'm used to fielding questions back home," he says. "And I'm no stranger to reports. Before this, I was in the army. I'll happily integrate myself into your team for the time being, just let me know what I've gotta do."
"I think you'll fit in just fine," Diana chuckles softly. "The rest of the
team takes a little while to warm up. We had our own differences when we
first came together. But when it came to protecting the world, we were able
to work together."
She pulls into the underground garage, easily bypassing Bruce's security
systems and pulling into a space marked specifically for her.
"As it is, our team has a tendency to do our own things. Normally, I would
be in Paris. But Bruce had invited me to come to Gotham and enjoy the
sights for a little while."
