( they've had the talk about whether or not the serum's a good idea since it's experimental and risky, but charles is adamant about giving it a try if hank ever gets it finished. he wraps his arms around erik then and presses a kiss to his cheek, and then once more on the tip of his nose before giving him a good and proper kiss. there's so much he wants to do with erik, really, but there's limits to what he can and can't do, and what he wants to do even, but he thinks they're managing just fine so far. )

( he helps erik with the buttons on his shirt just as hank pokes his head in to remind charles that he's got a class in ten minutes. hank tells erik to meet him downstairs for a chat about all the stuff he's been proposing, and charles gives erik a smile of encouragement. )

( charles has completed teaching all three of his classes by the time it's lunch hour. he hangs around the kitchen with the rest of the teaching staff, chatting about their lesson plans for the rest of the week while eating his lunch. after some time, he brings a tray food over to the library for erik, a proper kosher meal for him and a bowl of fruit for himself. erik, he thinks, is really like a cat who needs his little naps throughout the day. charles thinks it's adorable, really.
the library is thankfully always deserted at this time of the day, so it's really one of the best places to get some rest. charles puts the tray down on the coffee table and wheels himself closer to erik, smiling a little as he watches him sleep. he leans forward to slide his thumb across erik's cheek to wake him up. )

( just a gentle nudge against his subconscious. he doesn't reach further into his mind, but he stays connected to him when he senses that erik's having one of those dreams again. the ones with shaw. despite putting an end to that chapter of his life, the past still haunts him. charles reaches for erik's hand, intertwining their fingers together. ) You're safe with me now. He's stopped shouting anymore, because his pleas have fallen on deaf ears. He feels like a lifeless shell, and so, when Charles wakes him, he's immobile for a moment. ]

He's getting teary-eyed for some reason and that makes Erik look visibly confused, as he starts thinking he's going to break up with him. But then he remembers that there's that watch in his bag he's handing to him, and he doesn't even feign surprise.
He does however, carefully retrieve the watch out of its bag with a reverence for special objects, doesn't even need to read the inscription because he can feel it. And yet, he does, read it, run his fingers over the engraving, smile at Charles and offer him a sweet kiss of thanks.
